Karnataka State, with population of about 6 crore is India's the 8th most populous state. Total geographical area of Karnataka state is about 1.9 lakh km2 and it is the 8th biggest state by area in the country. Population density of the state is 319 persons per km2. There are 30 districts in the state, among them Bangalore is the most populous district with population of about 96.2 lakh and Kodagu is the least populous district with population of about 5.5 lakh. Belgaum is the biggest district in the state with an area of about 13 thousand km2 and Bangalore is the smallest with 2196 km2.

The state is home to about 6 crore people, among them about 3 crore (51%) are male and about 3 crore (49%) are female. 76% of the whole population are from general caste, 17% are from schedule caste and 7% are schedule tribes.
