Odisha State, with population of about 4 crore is India's the 11th most populous state. Total geographical area of Odisha state is about 1.6 lakh km2 and it is the 9th biggest state by area in the country. Population density of the state is 270 persons per km2. There are 30 districts in the state, among them Ganjam is the most populous district with population of about 35.3 lakh and Debagarh is the least populous district with population of about 3.1 lakh. Mayurbhanj is the biggest district in the state with an area of about 10 thousand km2 and Jagatsinghapur is the smallest with 1668 km2.

The state is home to about 4 crore people, among them about 2 crore (51%) are male and about 2 crore (49%) are female. 60% of the whole population are from general caste, 17% are from schedule caste and 23% are schedule tribes. Child (aged under 6 years) population of Odisha state is 13%, among them 52% are boys and 48% are girls. There are about 96.4 lakh households in the state and an average 4 persons live in every family.
