Namakkal District, with population of about 17.3 lakh is Tamil Nadu's the 12th least populous district, located in the state Tamil Nadu in India. Total geographical area of Namakkal district is 3420 km2 and it is the 12th smallest district by area in the state. Population density of the district is 505 persons per km2. There are 4 sub districts in the district, among them Tiruchengode is the most populous sub district with population of about 6.3 lakh and Paramathi-Velur is the least populous sub district with population of about 2.1 lakh.

There are 5 cities in the district which comes under the district administration, those are - Tiruchengode, Kumarapalayam, Namakkal, Rasipuram and Pallipalayam Municipalities.

The district is home to about 17.3 lakh people, among them about 8.7 lakh (50%) are male and about 8.6 lakh (50%) are female. 77% of the whole population are from general caste, 20% are from schedule caste and 3% are schedule tribes.
