South Goa District, with population of about 6.4 lakh is Goa's the least populous district, located in the state Goa in India. Total geographical area of South Goa district is 1966 km2 and it is the biggest district by area in the state. Population density of the district is 326 persons per km2. There are 5 sub districts in the district, among them Salcete is the most populous sub district with population of about 2.9 lakh and Canacona is the least populous sub district with population of about 45 thousand.

There are 7 cities in the district which comes under the district administration, those are - Mormugao, Margao, Curchorem-Cacora, Cuncolim and Quepem Municipal Councils (limited to 5 most populous).

Demographics

The district is home to about 6.4 lakh people, among them about 3.2 lakh (50%) are male and about 3.2 lakh (50%) are female. 84% of the whole population are from general caste, 1% are from schedule caste and 14% are schedule tribes. Child (aged under 6 years) population of South Goa district is 10%, among them 51% are boys and 49% are girls. There are about 1.5 lakh households in the district and an average 4 persons live in every family.
