Kodagu District, with population of about 5.5 lakh is Karnataka's the least populous district, located in the state Karnataka in India. Total geographical area of Kodagu district is 4102 km2 and it is the 6th smallest district by area in the state. Population density of the district is 135 persons per km2. There are 3 sub districts in the district, among them Somvarpet is the most populous sub district with population of about 2.1 lakh and Madikeri is the least populous sub district with population of about 1.5 lakh.

The district is home to about 5.5 lakh people, among them about 2.7 lakh (50%) are male and about 2.8 lakh (50%) are female. 76% of the whole population are from general caste, 13% are from schedule caste and 10% are schedule tribes. Child (aged under 6 years) population of Kodagu district is 10%, among them 51% are boys and 49% are girls.
