Udupi District, with population of about 11.8 lakh is Karnataka's the 8th least populous district, located in the state Karnataka in India. Total geographical area of Udupi district is 3582 km2 and it is the 4th smallest district by area in the state. Population density of the district is 329 persons per km2. There are 3 sub districts in the district, among them Udupi is the most populous sub district with population of about 5.6 lakh and Karkal is the least populous sub district with population of about 2.2 lakh.

The district is home to about 11.8 lakh people, among them about 5.6 lakh (48%) are male and about 6.2 lakh (52%) are female. 89% of the whole population are from general caste, 6% are from schedule caste and 4% are schedule tribes.
