Latur District, with population of about 24.5 lakh is Maharashtra's the 16th least populous district, located in the state Maharashtra in India. Total geographical area of Latur district is 7157 km2 and it is the 13th smallest district by area in the state. Population density of the district is 343 persons per km2. There are 10 sub districts in the district, among them Latur is the most populous sub district with population of about 6.8 lakh and Shirur-Anantpal is the least populous sub district with population of about 84 thousand.

There are 5 cities in the district which comes under the district administration, those are - Latur, Udgir, Ahmadpur, Nilanga and Ausa Municipal Councils.

Demographics

The district is home to about 24.5 lakh people, among them about 12.7 lakh (52%) are male and about 11.8 lakh (48%) are female. 78% of the whole population are from general caste, 20% are from schedule caste and 2% are schedule tribes. Child (aged under 6 years) population of Latur district is 13%, among them 53% are boys and 47% are girls. There are about 4.8 lakh households in the district and an average 5 persons live in every family.
