There are 5 sub districts in the district, among them Khandwa is the most populous sub district with population of about 5.6 lakh and Harsud is the least populous sub district with population of about 1.3 lakh.
There is only one city in the district that comes under the district administration which is Khandwa Municipal Corporation.
