Puruliya District, with population of about 29.3 lakh is West Bengal's the 6th least populous district, located in the state West Bengal in India. Total geographical area of Puruliya district is 6259 km2 and it is the 5th biggest district by area in the state. Population density of the district is 468 persons per km2. There are 20 sub districts in the district, among them Para is the most populous sub district with population of about 2 lakh and Santuri is the least populous sub district with population of about 79 thousand.

There are 3 cities in the district which comes under the district administration, those are - Puruliya, Raghunathpur and Jhalda Municipalities.

The district is home to about 29.3 lakh people, among them about 15 lakh (51%) are male and about 14.3 lakh (49%) are female. 62% of the whole population are from general caste, 19% are from schedule caste and 18% are schedule tribes.
