Bankura District, with population of about 36 lakh is West Bengal's the 9th least populous district, located in the state West Bengal in India. Total geographical area of Bankura district is 6882 km2 and it is the 4th biggest district by area in the state. Population density of the district is 523 persons per km2. There are 22 sub districts in the district, among them Onda is the most populous sub district with population of about 2.5 lakh and Hirbandh is the least populous sub district with population of about 84 thousand.

There are 3 cities in the district which comes under the district administration, those are - Bankura, Bishnupur and Sonamukhi Municipalities.

The district is home to about 36 lakh people, among them about 18.4 lakh (51%) are male and about 17.6 lakh (49%) are female. 57% of the whole population are from general caste, 33% are from schedule caste and 10% are schedule tribes. Child (aged under 6 years) population of Bankura district is 12%, among them 51% are boys and 49% are girls. There are about 7.7 lakh households in the district and an average 5 persons live in every family.
