Total geographical area of Munger district is 1419 km2 and it is the 6th smallest district by area in the state. Population density of the district is 964 persons per km2. There are 9 sub districts in the district, among them Munger is the most populous sub district with population of about 3.5 lakh and Asarganj is the least populous sub district with population of about 74 thousand.

There is only one city in the district that comes under the district administration which is Munger Municipal Corporation.
