Kathua District, with population of about 6.2 lakh is Jammu & Kashmir's the 8th most populous district, located in the state Jammu & Kashmir in India. Total geographical area of Kathua district is 2502 km2 and it is the 8th biggest district by area in the state. Population density of the district is 246 persons per km2. There are 5 sub districts in the district, among them Kathua is the most populous sub district with population of about 2.1 lakh and Bani is the least populous sub district with population of about 46 thousand.
There are 7 cities in the district which comes under the district administration, those are - Kathua (M Cl + OG) Municipal Council and Out Growth; Kathua (M Cl) Municipal Council; Hiranagar (MC), Parole (MC), Bashohli (MC), Billawar (MC) and Lakhanpur (MC) Municipal Committees.
Demographics
The district is home to about 6.2 lakh people, among them about 3.3 lakh (53%) are male and about 2.9 lakh (47%) are female. 68% of the whole population are from general caste, 23% are from schedule caste and 9% are schedule tribes.
