Salem Taluka, with population of about 12.7 lakh is Salem district's the most populous sub district, located in Salem district of the state Tamil Nadu in India. There are 89 villages in the sub district, among them J.Veeranam is the most populous village with population of about 11 thousand and Sittanur Gollapatti is the least populous village with population of 248. Perumampatti is the biggest village in the sub district with an area of 21 km2 and Attavanaipulaveri is the smallest with 0 km2.

There are 25 cities in the sub district which comes under the sub district administration, those are - Salem Municipal Corporation; Kondalampatti, Maramangalathupatti, Neykkarappatti, Puthur Agraharam and Erumapalayam Census Towns (limited to 5 most populous) Kannankurichi, Attayampatti, Ilampillai, Mallur and Panaimarathupatti Town Panchayats.
