Ambattur Taluka, with population of about 9.1 lakh is Thiruvallur district's the most populous sub district, located in Thiruvallur district of the state Tamil Nadu in India. There are 12 villages in the sub district, among them Vellanur is the most populous village with population of about 12 thousand and Vellacheri is the least populous village with population of 399. Vellanur is the biggest village in the sub district with an area of 16 km2 and Melpakkam is the smallest with 1 km2.

There are 11 cities in the sub district which comes under the sub district administration, those are - Ambattur, Maduravoyal and Valasaravakkam Municipalities; Nerkunram, Ramapuram, Ayappakkam, Nolambur and Karambakkam Census Towns (limited to 5 most populous); Porur Town Panchayat; and Tiruverkadu Municipality and Out Growth.
