Telangana State, with population of about 4 crore is India's the 12th most populous state. There are 10 districts in the state, among them Rangareddy is the most populous district with population of about 53 lakh and Nizamabad is the least populous district with population of about 25.5 lakh. Mahbubnagar is the biggest district in the state with an area of about 18 thousand km2 and Hyderabad is the smallest with 217 km2.

There is only one city in the state that comes directly under the state administration which is Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation and Out Growth.

Demographics

The state is home to about 4 crore people, among them about 2 crore (50%) are male and about 2 crore (50%) are female. 75% of the whole population are from general caste, 15% are from schedule caste and 9% are schedule tribes. Child (aged under 6 years) population of Telangana state is 11%, among them 52% are boys and 48% are girls. There are about 83.6 lakh households in the state and an average 4 persons live in every family.

The majority of the population, nearly 61% (about 2 crore) live in Telangana rural part and 39% (about 1 crore) population live in the Telangana urban part.

Hindus contribute 85% of the total population and are the largest religious community in the state followed by Muslims which contribute 13% of the total population and Christians are the third largest religious community here with 1% population..
