Haryana State, with population of about 3 crore is India's the 12th least populous state. Total geographical area of Haryana state is about 44 thousand km2 and it is the 9th smallest state by area in the country. Population density of the state is 573 persons per km2. There are 21 districts in the state, among them Faridabad is the most populous district with population of about 18.1 lakh and Panchkula is the least populous district with population of about 5.6 lakh. Bhiwani is the biggest district in the state with an area of 4778 km2 and Faridabad is the smallest with 741 km2.

Demographics

The state is home to about 3 crore people, among them about 1 crore (53%) are male and about 1 crore (47%) are female. 80% of the whole population are from general caste, 20% are from schedule caste. Child (aged under 6 years) population of Haryana state is 13%, among them 55% are boys and 45% are girls. There are about 48.6 lakh households in the state and an average 5 persons live in every family.

The majority of the population, nearly 65% (about 2 crore) live in Haryana rural part and 35% (about 88.4 lakh) population live in the Haryana urban part. Rural population density of Haryana state is 391 and urban population density is 4475 persons per km2.

Hindus contribute 87% of the total population and are the largest religious community in the state followed by Muslims which contribute 7% of the total population and Sikhs are the third largest religious community here with 5% population..
