Chhattisgarh State, with population of about 3 crore is India's the 13th least populous state. Total geographical area of Chhattisgarh state is about 1.4 lakh km2 and it is the 10th biggest state by area in the country. Population density of the state is 189 persons per km2. There are 18 districts in the state, among them Raipur is the most populous district with population of about 40.6 lakh and Narayanpur is the least populous district with population of about 1.4 lakh. Surguja is the biggest district in the state with an area of about 16 thousand km2 and Janjgir - Champa is the smallest with 3853 km2.

Demographics

The state is home to about 3 crore people, among them about 1 crore (50%) are male and about 1 crore (50%) are female. 57% of the whole population are from general caste, 13% are from schedule caste and 31% are schedule tribes. Child (aged under 6 years) population of Chhattisgarh state is 14%, among them 51% are boys and 49% are girls. There are about 56.5 lakh households in the state and an average 5 persons live in every family.

The majority of the population, nearly 77% (about 2 crore) live in Chhattisgarh rural part and 23% (about 59.4 lakh) population live in the Chhattisgarh urban part. Rural population density of Chhattisgarh state is 149 and urban population density is 1756 persons per km2.
