Total geographical area of Jhunjhunun district is 5928 km2 and it is the 13th smallest district by area in the state. Population density of the district is 361 persons per km2. There are 6 sub districts in the district, among them Jhunjhunun is the most populous sub district with population of about 5.4 lakh and Buhana is the least populous sub district with population of about 2.2 lakh.

There are 12 cities in the district which comes under the district administration, those are - Jhunjhunun (M Cl) Municipal Council; Nawalgarh (M), Chirawa (M), Pilani (M), Udaipurwati (M) and Mandawa (M) Municipalities (limited to 5 most populous).
