Total geographical area of Coimbatore district is 4732 km2 and it is the 11th biggest district by area in the state. Population density of the district is 731 persons per km2. There are 6 sub districts in the district, among them Coimbatore South is the most populous sub district with population of about 15.9 lakh and Valparai is the least populous sub district with population of about 71 thousand.
