Total geographical area of Dindigul district is 6036 km2 and it is the 5th biggest district by area in the state. Population density of the district is 358 persons per km2. There are 8 sub districts in the district, among them Dindigul is the most populous sub district with population of about 6.4 lakh and Kodaikanal is the least populous sub district with population of about 1.2 lakh.
