Total geographical area of Kolar district is 3979 km2 and it is the 5th smallest district by area in the state. Population density of the district is 386 persons per km2. There are 5 sub districts in the district, among them Bangarapet is the most populous sub district with population of about 4.5 lakh and Srinivaspur is the least populous sub district with population of about 2 lakh.
