Dharwad District, with population of about 18.5 lakh is Karnataka's the 12th most populous district, located in the state Karnataka in India. Total geographical area of Dharwad district is 4260 km2 and it is the 8th smallest district by area in the state. Population density of the district is 434 persons per km2. There are 5 sub districts in the district, among them Dharwad is the most populous sub district with population of about 2.5 lakh and Hubli is the least populous sub district with population of about 1.4 lakh.

There is only one city in the district that comes under the district administration which is Hubli-Dharwad Municipal Corporation.
