West Godavari District, with population of about 39.4 lakh is Andhra Pradesh's the 6th least populous district, located in the state Andhra Pradesh in India. Total geographical area of West Godavari district is 7742 km2 and it is the 3rd smallest district by area in the state. Population density of the district is 509 persons per km2. There are 46 sub districts in the district, among them Eluru is the most populous sub district with population of about 3.2 lakh and Jeelugu Milli is the least populous sub district with population of about 30 thousand.

There are 13 cities in the district which comes under the district administration, those are - Eluru Municipal Corporation and Out Growth; Eluru Municipal Corporation; Bhimavaram, Tadepalligudem, Palacole and Tanuku Municipality and Out Growths Bhimavaram, Tadepalligudem, Tanuku, Palacole and Narasapur Municipalities (limited to 5 most populous).

The district is home to about 39.4 lakh people, among them about 19.6 lakh (50%) are male and about 19.7 lakh (50%) are female. 77% of the whole population are from general caste, 21% are from schedule caste and 3% are schedule tribes.
