East Godavari District, with population of about 51.5 lakh is Andhra Pradesh's the most populous district, located in the state Andhra Pradesh in India. Total geographical area of East Godavari district is about 11 thousand km2 and it is the 5th smallest district by area in the state. Population density of the district is 477 persons per km2. There are 60 sub districts in the district, among them Rajahmundry (Urban) is the most populous sub district with population of about 3.4 lakh and Maredumilli is the least populous sub district with population of about 20 thousand.

There are 13 cities in the district which comes under the district administration, those are - Kakinada and Rajahmundry Municipal Corporation and Out Growths; Rajahmundry and Kakinada Municipal Corporations; Samalkot, Mandapeta, Tuni, Amalapuram and Pithapuram Municipalities (limited to 5 most populous) Mandapeta and Pithapuram Municipality and Out Growths.

The district is home to about 51.5 lakh people, among them about 25.7 lakh (50%) are male and about 25.8 lakh (50%) are female. 78% of the whole population are from general caste, 18% are from schedule caste and 4% are schedule tribes.
