Sangli District, with population of about 28.2 lakh is Maharashtra's the 15th most populous district, located in the state Maharashtra in India. Total geographical area of Sangli district is 8572 km2 and it is the 17th biggest district by area in the state. Population density of the district is 329 persons per km2. There are 10 sub districts in the district, among them Miraj is the most populous sub district with population of about 8.5 lakh and Atpadi is the least populous sub district with population of about 1.4 lakh.

There are 5 cities in the district which comes under the district administration, those are - Sangli Miraj Kupwad Municipal Corporation; Uran Islampur, Vita, Tasgaon and Ashta Municipal Councils.

The district is home to about 28.2 lakh people, among them about 14.4 lakh (51%) are male and about 13.9 lakh (49%) are female. 87% of the whole population are from general caste, 13% are from schedule caste and 1% are schedule tribes.
