Kolhapur District, with population of about 38.8 lakh is Maharashtra's the 9th most populous district, located in the state Maharashtra in India. Total geographical area of Kolhapur district is 7685 km2 and it is the 16th smallest district by area in the state. Population density of the district is 504 persons per km2. There are 12 sub districts in the district, among them Karvir is the most populous sub district with population of about 10.4 lakh and Bavda is the least populous sub district with population of about 36 thousand.

There are 10 cities in the district which comes under the district administration, those are - Kolhapur Municipal Corporation; Ichalkaranji, Jaysingpur, Kagal, Gadhinglaj and Vadgaon Kasba Municipal Councils (limited to 5 most populous).

The district is home to about 38.8 lakh people, among them about 19.8 lakh (51%) are male and about 19 lakh (49%) are female. 86% of the whole population are from general caste, 13% are from schedule caste and 1% are schedule tribes.
