Satara District, with population of about 30 lakh is Maharashtra's the 13th most populous district, located in the state Maharashtra in India. Total geographical area of Satara district is about 10 thousand km2 and it is the 12th biggest district by area in the state. Population density of the district is 287 persons per km2. There are 11 sub districts in the district, among them Karad is the most populous sub district with population of about 5.8 lakh and Mahabaleshwar is the least populous sub district with population of about 73 thousand.

There are 8 cities in the district which comes under the district administration, those are - Satara, Karad, Phaltan, Wai and Mhaswad Municipal Councils (limited to 5 most populous).

Demographics

The district is home to about 30 lakh people, among them about 15.1 lakh (50%) are male and about 14.9 lakh (50%) are female. 88% of the whole population are from general caste, 11% are from schedule caste and 1% are schedule tribes.
