Solapur District, with population of about 43.2 lakh is Maharashtra's the 7th most populous district, located in the state Maharashtra in India. Total geographical area of Solapur district is about 15 thousand km2 and it is the 4th biggest district by area in the state. Population density of the district is 290 persons per km2. There are 11 sub districts in the district, among them Solapur North is the most populous sub district with population of about 10.6 lakh and Mangalvedhe is the least populous sub district with population of about 2.1 lakh.

There are 10 cities in the district which comes under the district administration, those are - Solapur Municipal Corporation; Barshi, Pandharpur, Akkalkot, Sangole and Karmala Municipal Councils (limited to 5 most populous).

Demographics

The district is home to about 43.2 lakh people, among them about 22.3 lakh (52%) are male and about 20.9 lakh (48%) are female. 83% of the whole population are from general caste, 15% are from schedule caste and 2% are schedule tribes. Child (aged under 6 years) population of Solapur district is 12%, among them 53% are boys and 47% are girls.
