Thane District Rural Part, with population of about 25.5 lakh is Maharashtra's the 7th most rural populous district, located in the state Maharashtra in India. Total geographical area of Thane district rural part is 8460 km2 and it is the 16th biggest rural district by area in the state. Population density of the district is 301 persons per km2. There are 14 sub districts in the district, among them Dahanu Rural is the most populous sub district with rural population of about 3.4 lakh and Thane Rural is the least populous sub district with rural population of about 16 thousand.

There are 11 cities in the district which comes under the district administration, those are - Thane, Kalyan-Dombivli, Navi Mumbai, Mira-Bhayandar and Bhiwandi Nizampur Municipal Corporations (limited to 5 most populous) Ambarnath, Badlapur, Palghar, Dahanu and Jawhar Municipal Councils.
