Surat District, with population of about 60.8 lakh is Gujarat's the 2nd most populous district, located in the state Gujarat in India. Total geographical area of Surat district is 4549 km2 and it is the 12th smallest district by area in the state. Population density of the district is 1337 persons per km2. There are 10 sub districts in the district, among them Surat City is the most populous sub district with population of about 44.7 lakh and Umarpada is the least populous sub district with population of about 84 thousand.

There are 5 cities in the district which comes under the district administration, those are - Bardoli, Tarsadi, Kansad and Mandvi Municipalities and Surat Municipal Corporation and Out Growth.

Demographics

The district is home to about 60.8 lakh people, among them about 34 lakh (56%) are male and about 26.8 lakh (44%) are female. 83% of the whole population are from general caste, 3% are from schedule caste and 14% are schedule tribes. Child (aged under 6 years) population of Surat district is 12%, among them 55% are boys and 45% are girls.
