Balaghat District, with population of about 17 lakh is Madhya Pradesh's the 16th most populous district, located in the state Madhya Pradesh in India. Total geographical area of Balaghat district is 9229 km2 and it is the 5th biggest district by area in the state. Population density of the district is 184 persons per km2. There are 10 sub districts in the district, among them Baihar is the most populous sub district with population of about 2.8 lakh and Tirodi is the least populous sub district with population of about 79 thousand.

There are 4 cities in the district which comes under the district administration, those are - Balaghat, Malajkhand and Waraseoni Municipalities and Waraseoni Municipality and Out Growth.

The district is home to about 17 lakh people, among them about 8.4 lakh (49%) are male and about 8.6 lakh (51%) are female. 70% of the whole population are from general caste, 7% are from schedule caste and 23% are schedule tribes.
