Katni District, with population of about 12.9 lakh is Madhya Pradesh's the 21st least populous district, located in the state Madhya Pradesh in India. Total geographical area of Katni district is 4950 km2 and it is the 16th smallest district by area in the state. Population density of the district is 261 persons per km2. There are 7 sub districts in the district, among them Murwara is the most populous sub district with population of about 3.7 lakh and Barhi is the least populous sub district with population of about 1 lakh.

There is only one city in the district that comes under the district administration which is Murwara (Katni) Municipal Corporation.

Demographics

The district is home to about 12.9 lakh people, among them about 6.6 lakh (51%) are male and about 6.3 lakh (49%) are female. 63% of the whole population are from general caste, 12% are from schedule caste and 25% are schedule tribes.
