Total geographical area of Hoshangabad district is 6703 km2 and it is the 18th biggest district by area in the state. Population density of the district is 185 persons per km2. There are 8 sub districts in the district, among them Itarsi is the most populous sub district with population of about 2.4 lakh and Dolariya is the least populous sub district with population of about 58 thousand.
