Total geographical area of Dewas district is 7020 km2 and it is the 17th biggest district by area in the state. Population density of the district is 223 persons per km2. There are 8 sub districts in the district, among them Dewas is the most populous sub district with population of about 5.1 lakh and Hatpiplya is the least populous sub district with population of about 1.1 lakh.

There is only one city in the district that comes under the district administration which is Dewas Municipal Corporation.
