Total geographical area of Umaria district is 4076 km2 and it is the 9th smallest district by area in the state. Population density of the district is 158 persons per km2. There are 5 sub districts in the district, among them Manpur is the most populous sub district with population of about 2.3 lakh and Nowrozabad is the least populous sub district with population of about 78 thousand.
