Total geographical area of Satna district is 7502 km2 and it is the 11th biggest district by area in the state. Population density of the district is 297 persons per km2. There are 10 sub districts in the district, among them Raghurajnagar is the most populous sub district with population of about 5 lakh and Kotar is the least populous sub district with population of about 1.1 lakh.
