Bastar District, with population of about 14.1 lakh is Chhattisgarh's the 8th most populous district, located in the state Chhattisgarh in India. Total geographical area of Bastar district is about 10 thousand km2 and it is the 3rd biggest district by area in the state. Population density of the district is 135 persons per km2. There are 12 sub districts in the district, among them Jagdalpur is the most populous sub district with population of about 2.4 lakh and Bastanar is the least populous sub district with population of about 48 thousand.

There are 2 cities in the district which comes under the district administration, those are - Jagdalpur Municipal Corporation; and Kondagaon Municipality.

The district is home to about 14.1 lakh people, among them about 7 lakh (49%) are male and about 7.1 lakh (51%) are female. 31% of the whole population are from general caste, 3% are from schedule caste and 66% are schedule tribes.
