Total geographical area of Dhamtari district is 4084 km2 and it is the 2nd smallest district by area in the state. Population density of the district is 196 persons per km2. There are 4 sub districts in the district, among them Dhamtari is the most populous sub district with population of about 2.8 lakh and Magarlod is the least populous sub district with population of about 1.2 lakh.
