Surguja District, with population of about 23.6 lakh is Chhattisgarh's the 4th most populous district, located in the state Chhattisgarh in India. Total geographical area of Surguja district is about 16 thousand km2 and it is the biggest district by area in the state. Population density of the district is 150 persons per km2. There are 19 sub districts in the district, among them Ambikapur is the most populous sub district with population of about 2.8 lakh and Premnagar is the least populous sub district with population of about 65 thousand.

There are 3 cities in the district which comes under the district administration, those are - Ambikapur Municipal Corporation and Out Growth; Ambikapur Municipal Corporation; and Surajpur Municipality.

The district is home to about 23.6 lakh people, among them about 11.9 lakh (51%) are male and about 11.7 lakh (49%) are female. 40% of the whole population are from general caste, 5% are from schedule caste and 55% are schedule tribes.
