Total geographical area of Koriya district is 6604 km2 and it is the 8th smallest district by area in the state. Population density of the district is 100 persons per km2. There are 5 sub districts in the district, among them Baikunthpur is the most populous sub district with population of about 2 lakh and Sonhat is the least populous sub district with population of about 48 thousand.
