Kalahandi District, with population of about 15.8 lakh is Odisha's the 11th most populous district, located in the state Odisha in India. Total geographical area of Kalahandi district is 7920 km2 and it is the 7th biggest district by area in the state. Population density of the district is 199 persons per km2. There are 13 sub districts in the district, among them Sadar is the most populous sub district with population of about 2.2 lakh and Biswanathpur is the least populous sub district with population of about 23 thousand.

There is only one city in the district that comes under the district administration which is Bhawanipatna Municipality.
