Hugli District, with population of about 55.2 lakh is West Bengal's the 6th most populous district, located in the state West Bengal in India. Total geographical area of Hugli district is 3149 km2 and it is the 5th smallest district by area in the state. Population density of the district is 1753 persons per km2. There are 18 sub districts in the district, among them Dhaniakhali is the most populous sub district with population of about 3.2 lakh and Goghat - I is the least populous sub district with population of about 1.4 lakh.

There are 13 cities in the district which comes under the district administration, those are - Serampore, Hugli-Chinsurah, Uttarpara Kotrung, Rishra and Baidyabati Municipalities (limited to 5 most populous) and Hugli-Chinsurah Municipality and Out Growth.

The district is home to about 55.2 lakh people, among them about 28.1 lakh (51%) are male and about 27 lakh (49%) are female. 71% of the whole population are from general caste, 24% are from schedule caste and 4% are schedule tribes. Child (aged under 6 years) population of Hugli district is 10%, among them 51% are boys and 49% are girls.
