Barddhaman District, with population of about 77.2 lakh is West Bengal's the 3rd most populous district, located in the state West Bengal in India. Total geographical area of Barddhaman district is 7024 km2 and it is the 3rd biggest district by area in the state. Population density of the district is 1099 persons per km2. There are 31 sub districts in the district, among them Jamalpur is the most populous sub district with population of about 2.7 lakh and Raniganj is the least populous sub district with population of about 1.1 lakh.

There are 12 cities in the district which comes under the district administration, those are - Durgapur and Asansol Municipal Corporations; Barddhaman, Kulti, Jamuria, Raniganj and Katwa Municipalities (limited to 5 most populous) and Jamuria Municipality and Out Growth.

The district is home to about 77.2 lakh people, among them about 39.7 lakh (51%) are male and about 37.5 lakh (49%) are female. 66% of the whole population are from general caste, 27% are from schedule caste and 6% are schedule tribes.
