Nalanda District, with population of about 28.8 lakh is Bihar's the 18th most populous district, located in the state Bihar in India. Total geographical area of Nalanda district is 2355 km2 and it is the 18th smallest district by area in the state. Population density of the district is 1222 persons per km2. There are 20 sub districts in the district, among them Bihar is the most populous sub district with population of about 4.9 lakh and Katrisarai is the least populous sub district with population of about 42 thousand.

There is only one city in the district that comes under the district administration which is Biharsharif Municipal Corporation.
