Katihar District, with population of about 30.7 lakh is Bihar's the 14th most populous district, located in the state Bihar in India. Total geographical area of Katihar district is 3057 km2 and it is the 12th biggest district by area in the state. Population density of the district is 1005 persons per km2. There are 16 sub districts in the district, among them Kadwa is the most populous sub district with population of about 3.5 lakh and Hasanganj is the least populous sub district with population of about 56 thousand.

There are 2 cities in the district which comes under the district administration, those are - Katihar Municipal Corporation and Out Growth; and Katihar Municipal Corporation.

The district is home to about 30.7 lakh people, among them about 16 lakh (52%) are male and about 14.7 lakh (48%) are female. 86% of the whole population are from general caste, 9% are from schedule caste and 6% are schedule tribes.
