Mau District, with population of about 22.1 lakh is Uttar Pradesh's the 28th least populous district, located in the state Uttar Pradesh in India. Total geographical area of Mau district is 1713 km2 and it is the 8th smallest district by area in the state. Population density of the district is 1288 persons per km2. There are 4 sub districts in the district, among them Maunath Bhanjan is the most populous sub district with population of about 9.1 lakh and Madhuban is the least populous sub district with population of about 3.3 lakh.

The district is home to about 22.1 lakh people, among them about 11.1 lakh (51%) are male and about 10.9 lakh (49%) are female. 77% of the whole population are from general caste, 22% are from schedule caste and 1% are schedule tribes.
