Total geographical area of Deoria district is 2540 km2 and it is the 23rd smallest district by area in the state. Population density of the district is 1221 persons per km2. There are 5 sub districts in the district, among them Deoria is the most populous sub district with population of about 12.4 lakh and Barhaj is the least populous sub district with population of about 3.7 lakh.
