Total geographical area of Kushinagar district is 2905 km2 and it is the 29th smallest district by area in the state. Population density of the district is 1227 persons per km2. There are 4 sub districts in the district, among them Padrauna is the most populous sub district with population of about 11.3 lakh and Kasya is the least populous sub district with population of about 6.1 lakh.

The district is home to about 35.6 lakh people, among them about 18.2 lakh (51%) are male and about 17.5 lakh (49%) are female. 82% of the whole population are from general caste, 15% are from schedule caste and 2% are schedule tribes.
