Total geographical area of Chitrakoot district is 3216 km2 and it is the 35th smallest district by area in the state. Population density of the district is 308 persons per km2. There are 2 sub districts in the district, among them Karwi is the most populous sub district with population of about 7.1 lakh and Mau is the least populous sub district with population of about 2.8 lakh.
